Much of the elevation gain is up to Cabin lake beyond that you simply lose the elevation. Near the parking lot, there is a cafeteria and washrooms where you can get fresh and buy something to eat. From Cypress parking lot, the trail is little steep. Mostly you hike along the ski route. During the summer, it becomes loose and slippery as well. Also, when the snow melt, there will be mud as well on the trail.
If you plan to relax in the Cabin lake, try to hike on a clearer day. I also saw people with beer and floating around in the lake and enjoying the sun.
Most of the people often also go to the North shore eagle bluffs point from where the view is really awesome. I would suggest, again, going on a clearer day because you can see many islands and the ocean.

Eventually, both of these trails merge together. The trail is steep throughout until the Eagle Bluffs point beyond which the trail is easy. When we went hiking, we only encountered a group of three trail runners on the way. Beyond that, we were the only one throughout the trek. Also, at some of the points, we kind of got off the trail but eventually we were able to find the trail markers. So, trail markers are there at almost 95% of the places but at some places, they are missing. So, be careful.
If you are willing to try hiking from the bottom, try to have a hiking partner. Also, expect not to encounter someone on the trail. Another piece of advice would be to download the offline map and have that saved on your phone in case you feel like you got off the trail. The offline map was pretty handy for us for a few times.
Also, we encountered fallen trees on the trail. Sometimes, you also have to scramble over the big rocks. However, just before 1.5 Km from Eagle bluff point, you will start getting views and that would be awesome.
