Green Tea: A brief on its History to its consumption

These lines from Douglas Adams’s, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy more or less cover any tea lover’s thoughts on tea. In India black tea is the most widely consumed variety of tea, prepared in varying ways this tea is loved by all.

Black tea is the most oxidized variety of all tea types. Such intense oxidation results in a very strong flavor profile when compared with other tea varieties. This tea is known for its strength, its liquor has a dark amber color, the texture is robust and full bodied with a smoky aroma and a distinct malty taste. This tea is usually consumed with an additive like milk to mellow it down along with honey or sugar as a sweetener.

Black teas have been the popular choice as breakfast and afternoon teas. This is because it can accommodate a range of flavor combinations and additives, far better than a green tea, white or oolong can. Tea has been said to be the drink Indians cannot live without. It plays a big role in our lives be it a celebration or just a daily activity.

The basic distinction is in the leaf- whole leaf and broken leaves. Whole leaves have better flavor and aroma. That is why this sort of tea can be consumed without milk. Broken tea grades have more strength and accommodate milk well since they have more body than the whole leaf grades. They go into making blends like chai and iced teas.

Tea was a medicine before it was a beverage, the Chinese used to add herbs to it to enhance its medicinal properties. Even in the West, tea was first sold in medical shops where an apothecary would prescribe it to customers. Asian societies believed tea increases wakefulness and aids digestion, which is why they would have it with or after food. People still drink tea to keep themselves awake; it promotes wakefulness as it contains caffeine.

While tea isn’t some magical remedy, it actually does possess a number of health-giving properties. Tea is said to be good for your teeth due to the fluoride content in it. It is even good for your skin as it contains a lot of antioxidants and also has anti-aging properties. Tea also has the ability to reduce the risk of cancer though it cannot cure it.

This tea is also called red tea in parts of the world because of the color of the liquor that it forms. There are hundreds of different teas in the Black Tea family and each one is the result of a unique process of exposing picked leaves to air, heat, and moisture to facilitate fermentation of the leaves.
