Please note that Quechua T3 Plus is no more produced and they have replaced this dome shape hiking tent with Arpenaz XL 3. Followings are my personal opinions about Quechua T3 plus tent:
Quechua T3 plus Specification:
- Weight: 5.5 kg
- Dimension: 210 cm X 200 cm X 120 cm
- Waterproof, thick ground cover, Good Ventilation, No backpack to carry the tent
- 3/4 Person tent
- price: No more in production
When the trekking group size is more than 10, this tent is the best suitable tent among all in less price. In a recent adventure trend in south India, especially around Bangalore, Chennai and Pune, people organize treks in western Ghats, Eastern Ghats and Sahyadris range. When it comes to which tent shall I
When it comes to which tent shall I preferebly use for these treks, I as an organizer, would recommend Quechua T3 plus kind of tents because of their cost-effectiveness.
Quechua T3 plus is of great quality:
Quality of ground sheet, rain covers etc. are enough to sustain comfortably in rainy western ghats even in the monsoon because I have personally used these kinds of tents during monsoon treks in western Ghats. Besides, pole, pegs etc are also of nice quality. If you were to look out for the same in some different brands you might have to pay higher prices for the same quality. So in contrast with the quality and price, Quechua T3 plus surely has an edge over others in its price range.

T3 plus gives enough space:
Though they officially write its for three persons but when we use this tent, four persons can easily accomodate inside this tent. The dimension of 210 cm by 200 cm is surely enough for four people to sleep comfortably, provided they are average built and in size. Why so
Why so because, in Western Ghats the temperature dips around 10-15 at night. That means even in the summer, the night becomes colder. Once you slip inside sleeping bag, it would not be difficult to accomodate four persons easily inside the tent. Besides the tent height of 120 cm gives enough space to read, sit, even change clothes for the girls and ladies.
Water proof tent:
Quecha T3 plus is a complete waterproof, rainproof and even wind proof tent for the south India treks and in western Ghats range. Having done more than 30 treks and suing this kind of tent on ocassion of more than 20 times, I have personally known this tent and tasted it good by far. Just for a situation, even if rains whole night with high winds, this tent wont let you get wet provided you have properly pitched this tent to the ground. The ground sheet is thick and
The ground sheet is thick and wont let the flowing water underneath sip in. Rain flyers and covers are good and they prevent the water sipping in from the top.
Set up time:
If you have pitched any kind of tent before hand, it wont take you more than three to four minutes to pitch this tent. And yes, folding back the tent inside its cover is easier than even pitching it.
Vents have beeb provided at the front for ventilation purposes. And there are vents at the top too. One can just put on the nets when its not raining and sleep comfortably.
Cons/ Disadvantages of Quechua T3 plus dome tent:
The only disadvantage I see with this tent is it weighs more than its contemporary tents from other brands like northface or wildcraft or coleman. But those tent also cost much more than Quechua T3 Plus. It weighs around 5 kg.
Comparison between Arpenaz XL3 & Quechua T3 Plus tent:
Carrying the tent:
Quechua T3 plus dome tent used to come with simple cover without any carrying strap. So the whole tent had to be lifted or tied with the backpack and carried. But Arpenaz xl3 comes with a carrying strap in its cover which can be used to carry the tent by lifting the tent using its strap.
Quechua T3 plus dimension: 210 cm by 200 cm by 120 cm
Arpenaz XL3 dimension: 215 cm by 210 cm by 115 cm
That means Arpenaz XL3 has surely got more room than Quechua T3 plus.
Cost and number of people:
Arpenaz Xl3 costs a bit lesser than Quechua T3 plus. Both can easily accomodate upto four persons. However Arpezan xl3 will give more room in sleeping.
Weight of the tent:
Arepnaz XL3 weighs 700 gms lesser than T3 plus. However, getting so much of spance with also 100 gms esser weight worth it.
Waterproof/ rainproof Groundsheet:
I personally find waterproof groundsheet of Arpenaz XL3 tent thicker than that of Quechua T3 plus.
Pegs and poles:
Arpenaz 3 XL has better pegs than Quechua T3 plus. They are more angular, heavier and thicker. Better angulations provide better grip to the rope. It also makes it easier to pull the pegs off the ground. You can literally gauge inside your index finger to pull off the pegs.
Double ventilation and pockets:
Arpenaz Xl3 has extra ventilations than Quechua T3 plus. Also, it has got extra side pockets inside the tent.
Disadvantages of Arpenaz XL3 tent:
Different pitching style:
Pitching style of Arpenaz Xl3 is little complicated because of its shape. Also, it takes more time to pitch than Quechua T3 plus. For the first timers or those who have not pitched a tent before would surely find it difficult to pitch the tent.
