Sumas Mountain Hike from Vancouver

Sumas peak is situated near Abbotsford town near Vancouver beside the river Fraser. There is not any marked parking spot near the parking area but very few people visit the peak for the hiking so, overall, parking should not be a problem.

After doing a lot of hikes around Whistler and Squamish, Instead of going North of Vancouver, I thought of going east of Vancouver towards Sumas mountain peak. Before going for the hike, I looked for the reviews on Google and there were not so many reviews about the Sumas mountain peak on the Google reviews. So, initially, I was a bit apprehensive but finally, I decided to go.

Vancouver to Sumas mountain trailhead:

The drive from Vancouver to Sumas mountain trailhead is pretty straightforward and it took us around an hour and a half in the morning to reach the trailhead. Last 1 Km is on the gravel road. The parking area and the trailhead is not prominent but once you reach there, you will see other vehicles parked over there. That would be a good sign to park the vehicle.

Just at the beginning of the hike, you cross a water stream and almost keep hiking along the same water stream. In total, the same water stream is crossed twice. At around 40th percent of the hike, the trail emerges at a gravel road. From there, you have to take right and then after walking around 100 meters, the trail again goes into the forest. After that, you can keep on looking on the trees for the Centennial trail marks on the trees.

Near Chadsey lake, the hiking trail bifurcates but rejoins again across the lake. I would suggest you take the hiking trail on the left. You can see some nice views of the Fraser Valley.

The slope is around 14 degree on the average but at some places, it could go as high as 30 degrees. There are orange marks everywhere along the trail. We did out hike during the autumn so everywhere it was full of leaves of different colors along the trail.
