Hogenakkal Falls Parking

Once you reach Hogenakkal town, you will need to park your vehicle in the parking lot. The parking lot has a huge parking space, however, around 9-10 o clock, the parking might get full. So, please plan to reach early over there. As you can see in the above guide map, there is a road which leads to the main waterfalls, boat house and hanging bridge from where you get the majestic view of the waterfalls. From the parking lot, you will have to walk around 500 meters towards the south to reach the waterfalls and boating area. This entire length of 500 meters has a lot to offer to the fish lovers. You can eat fresh fishes over there from the river Kaveri.

The parking areas are managed by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) and private operators. The approximate parking rates at Hogenakkal Falls are as follows:

  1. Two-wheeler parking: INR 10-20 per vehicle
  2. Four-wheeler parking: INR 50-100 per vehicle
  3. Bus parking: INR 200-300 per vehicle

Please note that the rates may vary depending on the season and availability. It’s always best to confirm the rates with the parking operators before parking your vehicle. Also, it’s advisable to park your vehicle in designated parking areas to avoid any inconvenience or penalty.

Hogenakkal Reserve forest Entry & Charges

To reach the falls, you have to cross a kind of reserve forest before the town of Hogenakkal. Entry to the Hogenakkal reserve forest opens at 5 AM in the morning. Before that entry is not allowed and you shall have to wait at the entrance. For Hogenakkal reserve forest entry, you will have to take a receipt of Rs. 30. which I think is official. Then you will have to sign in a register and fill in your register with the vehicle number. To sign in the register, you will have to pay another Rs. 20 for the forest department guy who sits there.

After paying those two guys at the forest entrance, we proceeded and reached near the Hogenakkal bus stand or the parking point around 5.30 AM in the morning. Just before the parking point, there was another bunch of policemen. They will ask for RC, driving license and everything.

If you are missing those documents, understand you are gonna pay in any case. In our case, we paid another 100 rupees just like that to those guys. Then, for the parking, you will have to pay another 30 rupees.

Besides these charges, there are some other charges as well in the Hogenakkal. And list them out below:

  • Bathroom/ toilet charges: 5 rupees
  • Boating charges: Rs. 200 per person
  • For the view of the fall from the hanging bridge: Rs. 10 per person.
  • If you are going on a road trip from Bangalore to Hogenakkal, there are two tolls where you will have to pay for the toll charges and those will cost you a total of 130 rupees for a car two ways.

Hogenakkal Falls Boating charges

The boating price at Hogenakkal Falls in India can vary depending on the type of boat and the duration of the ride and also depends on your bargaining capacity. A the approximate rates for boating at Hogenakkal Falls are as follows:

  1. Coracle boat ride: INR 100-200 per person for a 20-30 minute ride.
  2. Motorboat ride: INR 700-800 per person for a 15-20 minute ride.
  3. Country boat ride: INR 1500-2000 for a 1-hour ride (can accommodate up to 6-8 people).

Please note that these rates are subject to change and may vary depending on the season and availability. It’s always best to confirm the rates with the boat operators before booking a ride.

Getting Fresh in Hogenakkal (Toilet + Bath):

There are two toilets in the Hogenakkal fall area. One is near the bus stand and another one is near the boat point called “Parisal Jetty” near the waterfalls. Both of these places are usually crowded. And, they do not have a lock from inside also. There is also a bathing facility near the falls.

Hogenakkal waterfalls:

So the Hogenakkal waterfalls are situated over the river Kaveri. The river Kaveri over there forms the border between Tamilnadu and Karnataka. So, the left or the south side of the river lies in the Tamilnadu part and the North of the right side of the river Kaveri lies on the Karnataka side.

Now, know that there are two waterfalls as a part of the Hogenakkal waterfalls. One part is in Tamilnadu where you see gorges and a lot of boating and coracle rides. The Hogenakkal waterfalls which lie in Karnataka, on the other hand, has a lot of cascades. Almost like around 20 of cascades making a waterfall. So, be sure to cover both the waterfalls.

Hogenakkal waterfalls: When is it open and when is it closed?

So, mostly during the monsoon and even after the monsoon, Hogenakkal waterfalls get closed. That means the coracle ride is closed and no one can enter the waterfalls.

Boating during the off-season at Hogenakkal waterfalls:

I cannot validate the authenticity of this truth but I have heard about boating even during the off-season at Hogenakkal. So, the policemen start patrolling along the river Kaveri and Hogenakkal waterfalls area for any illegal activities from around 9:00 AM in the morning.

Some people who reached early met a boatman and he promised them to take on a boat ride. They started around 7 AM in the morning. Saw the falls on the Tamilnadu side. Then walked across some reserve forest area and then also saw the Karnataka side waterfalls and the Boatman dropped them at some location which was almost 300 meters north to the bus stand.

So they got dropped there around 9 AM before the policemen started patrolling.

Police patrolling in Hogenakkal area till Billgundala:

We saw heavy police patrolling in the Hogenakkal area along the river Kaveri during the monsoon season when the river is really flooded. The bathing area near the waterfalls was really crowded and we were looking around for some places where we could bath and take a dip in the Kaveri.

Some local auto guys suggested us to go to Billgundala which is almost 7-8 Kms north of Hogenakkal on the way from Hogenakkal to Anchetty. So we drive there but just before the Billgundala village, there was a forest checkpoint and we were allowed not to enter there. So we had to return from there.

Besides, there were policemen on each square feet, around Hogenakkal area preventing people from entering into the river Kaveri because of the flooded water.

Oil Massage at Hogenakkal:

After the fish fry, if there is something famous in Hogenakkal then that is Oil massage. There were a lot of oil massage guys who were walking around with an oil bottle and asking to use their massage service.

And trust me, a lot of people take the message also. Since it was hot and the bathing area was so much crowded, we decided to skip the oil massage part.

Staying near Hogenakkal:

Though Hogenakkal waterfalls form a kind of place which is suitable for just one day visit. However, if you want to stay there then, I would not suggest you go to any other hotel than hotel Tamilnadu. This hotel is the official hotel by Tamilnadu tourism development corporation and is situated near the bus stand.

It is also not located near the road. Because of the big compound, the rooms are located far inside the complex and you can expect some peace over there.

Best time to visit Hogenakkal falls:

I would not recommend visiting the Hogenakkal falls during monsoon season or when the water level is more in the river Kaveri. If you are planning to visit this place, try to reach there early morning. Because from around 9’o clock, the sun gets hotter and it really becomes harder to bear the sun. Reach early, visit the place and leave early. If you have any doubt, please write in the comments below. I will reply.
